50th anniversary of Apollo 11
Neil Armstrong was the first to set fott on the moon, with Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin following 19 minutes later. The astronauts carried a Portable Life Support System (PLSS) on their backs, and Armstrong initially had some difficultysqueezing through the hatch of the Lumar Module (LM) with his PLSS on. Some of the highest heart rates recorded from Apollo astronauts occurred during LM egress and ingress. The image above, taken by Amrstrong, shows Aldrin beginning his descent into the lunar surface.
