50th anniversary of Apollo 11 |
After a little under 22 hours on the moon (including the 2.5 hour moonwalk), Armstrong and Aldrin fired the launch rocket on the Lunar Module to rejoin Collins in the Command Module in orbit about the moon. Michael Collins was able to snap the image above, capturing the Earth, Moon, and the approaching Ascent Stage of the LM, all in the one frame.
