Winners of the NSW Central West Astronomical Society's
annual astrophotography competition.
were announced during the
CWAS AstroFest conference on Saturday, 23 July 2022.
Amateur astronomers
and photographers from around Australia were invited to submit
their astrophotographs for consideration in the prestigious David Malin Awards.
This year's competition had eight categories:
Deep Sky, Wide-Field, Nightscapes, Solar System, Animated Sequences,
Smartphone Astrophotography, the theme "Alignments", and Junior (18 years old and younger).
The photo above, taken at the Australia Telescope Commpact Array by Jong Lee, was titled "Origin of Stars" and
was the winner in the "Alignments" theme category.
The citation from the judging panel read
"A very fine and striking image enhanced by an imaginative title and composition."
