Wednesday October 5th marked the 10th Anniversary of the Official Opening of the
ASKAP telescope at the Murchison Radio-astronomy Observatory.
After welcomes and introductions, addresses were given by
Megan Clark (CSIRO Chief Executive),
Simon Broad (Murchison Shire President),
John Day (WA Minister for Science and Innovation),
Roderick Simpson (Wajarri Yamatji Community Representative),
Michiel van Haarlem (Interim Director General, SKA Organisation) and
Chris Evans (Minister for Tertiary Education, Skills, Science and Research).
The Opening included an antenna naming ceremony,
led by Godfrey Simpson and Leonie Boddington,
which gave each of the 36 ASKAP antennas
a Wajarri name.
As the image above shows, the event at the MRO was recorded,
and streamed in real-time to other CSIRO sites where
parallel events were held.
