The ATCA at sunset
The Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA), at Narrabri in northern NSW, features 22m diameter antennas that can be moved along rail tracks to place them in different array configurations. Currently, the ATCA is in the 6A array, with a 6km spacing between eastern-most and western-most antennas. The image above was taken with the ATCA in a more compact array, and with some antennas on the main east-west rail track, and others on the north-south spur.
