This month's
ASKAP
update, described in yesterday's ADAP,
also contained the images above, of a portion of our galaxy.
The images were made at 944 MHz on the left and 1296 MHz
on the right and are displayed at the natural resolution of the
image. While the slight improvement in angular resolution
in the higher resolution image is evident,
the images highlight the diversity of structures apparent
along the Galactic Plane, includinng shell-like supernova remnants,
and other loops and extended objects. The compact point-like objects
in the image are not stars, but other "background" galaxies lying
