National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to
learn about their shared histories, cultures, and achievements. The
dates for National Reconciliation Week are 27 May to 3 June, which
commemorate two significant milestones — the successful 1967
referendum (which meant that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
peoples would be counted as part of the population and that the
Commonwealth would be able to make laws for them) and the High Court
Mabo decision (which recognised that Indigenous Australians have
proprietary "native title" rights to land) respectively. The National
Reconciliation Week 2022 theme, “Be Brave. Make Change.” is a
challenge to all Australians -- individuals, families, communities,
organisations and government -- to Be Brave and tackle the unfinished
business of reconciliation so we can Make Change for the benefit of
all Australians. National Reconciliation Week is being marked at CSIRO
by a range of events.
