ASKAP-FLASH: New searches for extragalactic HI 21-cm absorption at 0.4 < z < 1.0
Hyein Yoon (U Syd)
Abstract: FLASH (the First Large Absorption Survey in HI) is a wide-field radio survey searching for 21-cm line absorption at 0.4 < z < 1.0. The goal of the survey is to understand the evolution of the neutral gas in galaxies and its role in AGN accretion and feedback. In this talk, I will highlight a set of new HI 21-cm absorption lines detected in the ASKAP Pilot Survey Phase 1 and 2. Both associated systems (where the HI gas is at the same redshift as the background radio source) and intervening systems (where the HI gas is in the foreground along the line-of-sight) will be discussed. Additionally, I will report an update on the FLASH Full Survey, which will continue for the next five years.
