There will be a total solar eclipse today, with
the town of Exmouth in Western Australia
lying along the ~50km wide path of totality.
The total eclipse in Exmouth will last just
under a minute, occurring around 11:30 local time,
and the event will be live-streamed by Perth
Observatory.
Today's image is from a previous solar eclipse,
in December 2002. On that occasion, the path of totality
passed over Ceduna in South Australia and moved up into Queensland.
At Parkes, the moon only blocked a fraction of
the Sun, resulting in a partial solar eclipse,
which John Sarkissian was perfectly
positioned to capture!
