Athena, the lunar lander of Intuitive Machines’ IM-2 mission, successfully entered a circular orbit around the Moon on 3 March. Flight controllers expect it to complete 39 orbits before its south pole landing site receives sufficient sunlight for surface operations. Intuitive Machines targets a landing opportunity on 6 March at 11:32 a.m. CST (7 March, 4:32 a.m. AEDT), with live coverage beginning at 10:30 a.m. CT / 11:30 a.m. ET (7 March, 3:30 a.m. AEDT) on the IM-2 mission page and NASA+, both streaming identical content. The image here shows Athena in lunar orbit with Earth in the background.  Murriyang, CSIRO’s Parkes radio telescope is one of the antenna’s in IM’s Lunar Tracking Network and has been tracking Athena on her journey to the Moon. For additional IM-2 mission images, click here.
