The ATCA in a 750m array configuration in May 2025, during the BIGCAT upgrade.

The Australia Telescope Compact Array is currently in the process of being upgraded from the CABB (Compact Array Broadband Backend) correlator to the new BIGCAT system. BIGCAT, the Broadband Integrated GPU Correlator for ATCA, is funded in part by an Australian Research Council (ARC) Linkage Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities (LIEF) grant. The LIEF funding is being led by Western Sydney University, working closely with CSIRO and seven other university partners. The array, pictured above, is currently in a 750m array configuration, with that distance being the largest separation between the five antennas on the east-west rail-track.
