National Reconciliation Week is held from 27 May to 3 June each year. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey – the successful 1967 referendum, and the 1992 High Court Mabo decision. The National Reconciliation Week theme for 2025, “Bridging Now to Next”, invites us to honour the lessons of the past, engage meaningfully in the present, and work collectively towards a more respectful and sustainable future for all Australians. In this year’s artwork, created by Kalkadoon woman Bree Buttenshaw, native plants − which are known for regenerating after fire and thriving through adversity − symbolise collective strength and the possibilities of renewal. A range of events are being held across CSIRO sites to commemorate National Reconciliation Week.
