There is an old saying “Red sky at night, sailor’s (or shepherd’s) delight/Red sky at morning, sailor’s warning”. The saying has persisted as it contains some truth — a red sunset often indicates a high pressure system (bringing generally finer weather and clear skies) is approaching from the west. On a recent visit to the Australia Telescope Compact Array, Stephanie Smith was in the right place at the right time to snap a brilliant red sunset with a couple of antennas in the foreground.
