Gemma Anderson, ATNF Research Scientist working on the ATCA Rapid Response Mode

Gemma Anderson recently joined CSIRO Space & Astronomy at Kensington as a Research Scientist to work on the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) rapid response mode. She has spent the last 10 years driving the installation and science motivation for the automated and rapid follow-up of transients using radio telescopes. Her primary scientific focus is on the radio emission from gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), which arise from the collapse of massive stars or the merger of binary neutron stars. She leads the PanRadio GRB team, which utilises the ATCA rapid-response mode to obtain the earliest recorded radio detections of GRBs, discovering unexpected early-time phenomena. Gemma is also a qualified Zumba instructor and enjoys drawing and painting in her spare time.
