CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency, is celebrating its centenary this year.  Established as the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in 1926, it was constituted as a statutory authority in 1949 and renamed the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO).  The CSIRO website is commemorating the centenary with a timeline showcasing events and achievements, which includes the opening of Murriyang, the Parkes radiotelescope in 1961, the establishment of the ATNF (Australia Telescope National Facility) in 1988, the opening of ASKAP in 2012, and the start of SKA-Low construction in 2022.  Additionally, this article describes how CSIRO’s people and research have quietly reshaped how we live.
