The cryogenically cooled phased array feed (or “CryoPAF”) is the next generation, wide-field-of-view survey instrument for the Murriyang telescope. It has been designed to discover pulsars, fast radio bursts (FRBs), redshifted HI, OH, for VLBI, SETI and more.
The phased array feed has:
- 98 dual linear polarised elements
- A maximum of 72 beams (8 for pulsar timing and VLBI)
- Approximately 1.5 sq deg field of view
- Feed rotation allows tracking in parallactic angle
- Frequency range between 700 and 1200 MHz and also from 1100 to 1950 MHz
- Processed bandwidth of ~600 MHz, with the potential to expand to 900 MHz
- System temperature ~20 K
We expect CryoPAF observations starting from the April 2025 observing semester.
