Abstract: For over 20 years I worked in corporate
research and develop in the US and in Australia. I have worked with
companies all over the world to develop analysis techniques, build
equipment, and analyse data across a number of industries. During this
time I have built and designed 3 new facilities, been an industry
mentor for graduate students, and spent a lot of time managing
projects from idea to reality. Since 2007 I have also been a research
associate or PhD student. I did my PhD research at Curtin University
in 2015-2018 designing capabilities and using the Murchison Widefield
Array (MWA). I have also been a research associate at the University
of New Mexico (UNM) in 2007 to 2011 and Curtin University in 2011 to
2014. At UNM I worked with the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array
(JVLA), Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA), the Long Wavelength Array
(LWA) and the HALO prototype array to build the telescope, reduce
data, and build pipelines. Currently I work with CSIRO Astronomy &
Space Science using ATCA, Parkes, ASKAP and the MWA. I will talk about
the work I have done in industry and how this compares to my time as a
student and research associate in academia.
