NAIDOC week |
NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to
celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander peoples.
NAIDOC originally stood for ‘National Aborigines and Islanders Day
Observance Committee’. This committee was once responsible for
organising national activities during NAIDOC Week and its acronym has
since become the name of the week itself.
The theme for NAIDOC week in 2022 is "Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!" which
addresses the need for
the relationship between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians
to be based on justice, equity, and the proper recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' rights.
The finishing touches are being put to a series of indigenous artworks celebrating the ASKAP Survey Science Projects which will be shared as ADAPs in the near future. (Image credit: www.naidoc.org.au) |
