The Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix was held in Melbourne yesterday,
and this year there was a surprising addition to the livery of
the McLaren cars (one of which was driven by Australian Daniel Ricciardo).
Deadly Science is a
charity organisation that provides science books, early reading material,
and telescopes to remote Australian Indigenous communities.
This F1 season, McLaren sponsor Smartsheet is donating its advertising
space on the cars to worthy not-for-profit organisations, and Deadly Science
was selected for this race.
The work of Deadly Science has previously been recognised with the
2021 Eureka Prize for Innovation in Citizen Science,
and the
a
2019 CSIRO Indigenous STEM Award.
Deadly Science founder Corey Tutt
said of the opportunity to have
its logo beamed around the world, "It's just a phenomenal gesture and I'm speechless, I can't believe it even happened."
