2024/25 Vacation Students based at the Marsfield site

The CSIRO Space & Astronomy Vacation Scholarship Program provides undergraduate students with the opportunity to work on a research project under the supervision of a CSIRO Space & Astronomy staff member. The students are also allocated a block of observing time on the ATCA to conduct their own observations. In addition to the talks describing their main projects over the last two days, the teams described their experiences with ATCA observing. This year’s observing provided plenty of evidence in support of Murphy’s Law — anything that could go wrong, did go wrong! But the wind-stows, thunderstorms, power outages, lost VNC connections, locked gates, and one slightly inaccurate source position did not stop the teams from gaining an appreciation of astronomy in real life, and producing some useful data.
