The 1.7 to 3.0 GHz feed horn built by CSIRO for Project Phoenix.

Project Phoenix was a dedicated Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence (SETI) made over a number of years with radio-telescopes around the world. The project, which ran at Parkes for 16 weeks, is described in an article in The Conversation. In addition to the observing time on Murriyang, CSIRO also provided remote access to the 22m Mopra telescope for real-time follow-up of any signal candidates. CSIRO designed and built two feed horns for the Parkes telescope for the project, one covering 1.0 to 1,7 GHz and the other covering 1.7 to 3.0 GHz. These feed horns accompanied the Project Phoenix equipment to Green Bank in the second half of 1995 for the next stage of the project, but were eventually returned to Parkes in the early 2000s. The image above shows the 1.7–3.0 GHz feed horn being inspected by CSIRO staff Bob Shields and Kel Wellington and Western Sydney University SETI researcher Bobbie Vaile.
