THE DIGITIZED FIRST BYURAKAN SURVEY (DFBS)
Areg M Mickaelian
Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory (BAO)

The First Byurakan Survey (FBS) is the largest spectral survey in Northern sky. It covers 17,000 $deg^{2}$ at high galactic latitudes. FBS have been carried out with Byurakan Observatory 1m Schmidt telescope using $1.5^{\circ}$ objective prism. Each FBS plate contains low-dispersion spectra of some 15,000-20,000 objects: in all there are some 20,000,000 objects. One can select objects by colour, broad lines, SED, classify and investigate them. More than 2100 FBS plates are present. A project of digitization of FBS is being carried out by Byurakan and Universita di Roma ``La Sapienza" teams. It is aimed at digitization of the whole FBS material and making a database for free access to astronomical community. The scanning gives 1.542"/pix scale, and each spectrum is 107 pixels long. Beside scanning and archiving, plate solution, extraction software, wavelength and flux calibration, templates for different types of objects, a numerical classification scheme, a catalog of spectra, user interface and DFBS web page are being made. The FBS database will be open at the end of 2003. New research projects based on DFBS are possible, including search for new QSOs and other AGN, continuation of the FBS Second Part, identifications of IR and X-ray sources, etc.
