THE FORS DEEP FIELD: A DEEP 3-D MAP

Using deep broad-band photometry, photometric redshifts, and low resolution spectroscopy we studied galaxies with redshifts up to z = 5 in the FORS Deep Field (FDF) which covers about 50 square-arcmin near the South Galactic Pole. In addition to information on the large-scale structure in the direction of the FDF we determined the redshift dependence of the population properties, chemical composition, star formation rates, internal kinematics, and other characteristics of the galaxies in this sample.
