We present GASPHOT, a tool for automated surface photometry and morphological classification of galaxies in deep and wide fields. From the automatic analysis of the image we obtain the full photometric profile, together with total magnitude, effective radius Sersic index n and ellipticity for each galaxy in the field. After testing the tool on simulations, we applied it to WINGS, an optical survey of 78 nearby clusters, obtaining photometric classification for over 30000 galaxies in a broad range of cluster properties. Color-magnitude relations, Kormendy relations and morphological content of the clusters can thus be obtained in a completely automatic way. The tool is general, in the sense that it can be applied to any wide field survey without modifications. The results, and the relation between visual morphological classification and the GASPHOT parameters are presented and discussed.
