CONSTRAINTS ON COSMIC REIONIZATION FROM HIGH-Z QSO SPECTRA
Kumiko Hiroi
Institute of physics, University of Tsukuba

We simulate the cosmic reionization by solving radiative transfer of ionizing photons in an inhomogeneous universe. Using the resultant ionization pattern, Lyman alpha absorption lines are generated and directly compared to the spectra of recently observed QSOs at z>6. By this comparison, we have found that the intensity of UV background radiation decreases with increasing z at 4<z<6 by roughly two orders of magnitude, and the reionization epoch must be 10<z<14. The cosmological implication of these results are discussed in relation to the recent results of WMAP.
