Commitment to diversity and inclusion highlighted by new role

At CSIRO, we aim to foster and build a fair, equitable and inclusive workplace where we all feel we belong and are empowered to perform at our best.

CSIRO's Space and Astronomy business unit, which manages the ATNF, continues its progress towards its diversity and inclusion goals with the introduction of a Diversity and Inclusion Manager. We welcome Eleanor Ingram into the role.

Making conscious and proactive steps toward diversity and inclusion will have positive effects on the ATNF community and beyond.

Eleanor is a specialist in this area, having worked with emergency services, government departments, and the university sector to lead the development of strategic organisation-wide programs to enable change.

Leading the development and implementation of the Diversity and Inclusion Strategy, Eleanor will advise the Space and Astronomy Executive team and provide guidance to managers to drive positive change. She will also be an advocate for diversity and inclusion across CSIRO and external communities.

This management role will be supported by the volunteer D&I Committee who, over the past two years, have created and implemented two action plans and rolled out training to S&A staff, with S&A awarded a Bronze Pleiades award by the Astronomical Society of Australia's IDEA Chapter in 2021.

Eleanor commended the diligence that has come before her, saying, "I'm looking forward to being part of the genuine and authentic commitment that Space and Astronomy has to diversity and inclusion."

Dr Douglas Bock, Director of the ATNF, said, "I'd like to welcome Eleanor to the CSIRO community, and thank the D&I Committee for building a comprehensive and solid foundation from which the organisation can continue to develop."
