High-frequency properties of extragalactic radio sources - Dr Roberto Ricci Colloquium

The Australia Telescope National Facility Colloquium
15:30-16:30 Wed 01 Dec 2004

ATNF Marsfield Lecture Theatre

Abstract

Determining the statistical properties of extragalactic radio sources
at high frequency is of great interest in its own and is also crucial
in view of the scientific analysis of the high-sensitivity and
high-resolution maps of the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation
provided by the currently flying satellite WMAP and by forthcoming
space missions, such as Planck, because the extragalactic radio source
foreground contamination has not been well constrained yet.
In this talk I will present source count predictions for high-frequency
radio surveys based on a novel evolutionary model of flat-spectrum
radio quasars and steep-spectrum sources and I will also highlight the
major results obtained by the 18 GHz ATCA Pilot Survey and the
high-frequency polarization properties of the southern Kuehr sample
sources inferred by 18.5 GHz ATCA observations carried out in March 2002.
