ATNF Projects and ATCA Positions Database Records

The ATNF Projects Database contains information given on proposals submitted to the Australia Telescope National Facility for observations with the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA), the Parkes radio telescope, the Mopra radio telescope and the Long Baseline and VLBI arrays.

The ATCA Positions Database contains information on sources and positions observed with the Australia Telescope Compact Array. This information is obtained from a daily summary of the sources and positions observed.

Project Identification
An identification number allocated to the project. The letters C, M, P and V are used to denote proposals for the Compact Array, Mopra, Parkes or the Long Baseline Array/VLBI.
Observing Term
The year and term of the proposal. Since 1991 observations have been scheduled in four-monthly periods which commence in December, April and August of each year.
Title
Project Title
Investigators
List of investigators and their institutions as listed on proposal. The principal investigator is normally listed first.
Dates Allocated
Dates allocated for the observing term
Time Allocated
Time allocated for the observing term
Time accumulated
Total time allocated to date
Scientific Category
Information on the scientific category. Entries include : Extragalactic, Galactic, Magellanic Clouds, Solar, Solar System, Stellar.
Type of Observations
Information on the type of observations - Entries include : Imaging, Snapshot, Bandwidth synthesis, Mosaicing, Point Source, Monitoring, High Time resolution, Pulsar, Phased array, LBA/VLBI, Continuum, Spectral Line, Linear Polarization, Circular Polarization, Solar, `Filler' time.
Proposal Type
Options are : ToO = Target of Opportunity, NAPA = Non-apriori-assignable, Standard = all others.
Antennas
Information on antennas used. Entries include : CA = Compact Array, P = Parkes, M = Mopra, T = Tidbinbilla, H = Hobart, MOST = Molonglo Synthesis Telescope

Continuing Proposal?
Specifies whether a proposal has been given a 'continuing status'. This may be given, at the discretion of the Time Assignment Committee, to projects which continue over several terms. For projects with a continuing status, the proposers need only submit the proposal cover sheets to the Time Assignment Committee.
Continuing until
Gives the expiry date for proposals with a continuing status. After this date a full proposal case must be submitted before further time will be given.
Project Identification
An identification number allocated to the project. The letters C, M, P and V are used to denote proposals for the Compact Array, Mopra, Parkes or the Long Baseline Array/VLBI.

Scan Number or Integration Time
(minutes) Note: Prior to 15/10/92 the value recorded in the database refers to the number of scans observed. For observations on or after 15/10/92, the value is the total integration time for a given source/date. Sources observed for less than 5 minutes are not included in the database.
