Role:

I am the Education and Outreach Specialist for CSIRO's Astronomy and Space Science (CASS). As such I develop educational programs and materials to support students, teachers and the public in their understanding of astronomy. Part of my job is to write online educational resources in astronomy and in particular the radio astronomy and other work carried out by CASS. I run professional development for teachers, give presentations to teacher groups and schools and coordinate a speaker program of CASS researchers for schools and community groups. I also run the innovative PULSE@Parkes project.

Background

I have an extensive teaching background in Physics, Junior Science and Outdoor Education. My undergraduate study in Physics was at the Royal Military College, Duntroon before completing a Graduate Diploma of Education at Sydney Institute of Education. I taught at Blue Mountains Grammar School from 1985-2001 and at Tara Anglican School for Girls from 2001-2003.

During my teaching career I was heavily involved in curriculum design, being on the team that wrote the syllabus and course material for the Cosmology Distinction Course  for the NSW BOard of Studies as well as being involved in the writing of the previous HSC Physics Syllabus in NSW.

I have been involved in postgraduate research in astronomy education at UWS Nepean. My specific area of interest is in student-based research projects in astronomy, something that was an active field whilst I was at Blue Mountains Grammar School. You can read my publication list and access some of my papers online.
