Representatives from more than 20 companies came together on Wednesday 14 December 2011 to celebrate the recent milestones achieved by CSIRO's Australian SKA Pathfinder (ASKAP) radio telescope project.

The special industry update event was hosted by CSIRO's ASKAP team at CSIRO Astronomy and Space Science (CASS) headquarters in Marsfield, New South Wales.

Dr Phil Diamond, Chief of CASS, and Dr Sarah Pearce, CASS Deputy Business Unit Leader, presented the latest news on the telescope and explained how it is assisting in the development of the Square Kilometre Array, a future international radio telescope that will be the world's largest and most sensitive.

Guests — from a diverse range of organisations including antenna specialists, electronic component suppliers and civil engineering contractors — were also thanked for their contributions to the ambitious ASKAP project.

"The event was a great opportunity to share with our industry partners news of the latest ASKAP successes, and to continue to foster relationships for the future," says Ant Schinckel, CSIRO's ASKAP Director.

ASKAP is currently under construction at the Murchison Radio-astronomy Observatory in the Mid West region of Western Australia.
