Obituary for Masaki Morimoto




    Prof. Masaki Morimoto suddenly passed away on 16th November, 2010 by cardiac infarction.

    He was 78 years old.

    He is an originator of radio astronomy in Japan and led mm-wave astronomy and VLBI astronomy.

    He was a professor of University of Tokyo, National Astronomical Observatory of Japan, and Kagoshima University.

    Also he served a director of Nobeyama Radio Observatory and a chair of IAU Division X (Radio Astronomy).

    He initiated Nobeyama 45-m radio telescope and VSOP project which was first space VLBI project.

    We regret the loss of Morimoto-san, and share the deep condolence for his passage.
