[askap-users] Invitation to join the Very Long Baseline Array All-Sky Survey science team

From: Hotan, Aidan (CASS, Kensington WA) <"Hotan,>
Date: Thu, 18 Jul 2019 01:03:51 +0000

The ASKAP community may be interested in the following opportunity:

Members of the worldwide very long baseline interferometry community are currently preparing an extremely large proposal to image the entire radio sky at milli-arcsecond angular resolution with the VLBA. The principle aims of this survey are to test models for AGN evolution (single and binary systems, star-formation, atomic and molecular absorption), stellar astrophysics, dark matter (gravitational lensing) and radio transients (FRBs, GW). In addition, the large number of new detections are expected to provide a new set of calibrator sources for PI-led VLBI observations in the future. Such a survey is envisaged to also have strong synergies with ongoing radio surveys (ASKAP, uGMRT, LOFAR, MeerKAT and VLASS), but also with multi-wavelength datasets from the next generation of survey (LSST, WFIRST, Euclid) and high resolution telescopes (ELT, GMT, TMT, JWST) at optical and infrared wavelengths.

Members of the scientific community are invited to join the survey team, by emailing the project lead, Prof. John McKean (ASTRON, RuG) at mckean_at_email.protected>, expressing their interest in the project and stating the science areas that are most relevant to them.
