Abstract

The presentation reflects on the processes of research and innovation from the world of high volume production consumer electronics. An overview of the changes in approach is presented and a few project examples are briefly discussed to demonstrate how these have changed over the past three decades. These ideas might inform approaches to the development and realisation of next-generation mega-science projects such as the SKA.
