GLEAM: The GaLactic and Extragalactic MWA Survey -- Natasha Hurley-Walker Colloquium

The Australia Telescope National Facility Colloquium
15:00-16:00 Wed 17 Jul 2013

Abstract

The Murchison Widefield Array has recently commenced its Operations phase,
during which it will pursue four main science goals: solar, heliospheric
and ionospheric science, the search for low-frequency radio transient
objects, pushing toward a detection of the Epoch of Reionization, and a
sky survey between 80 and 220 MHz, on which this talk will focus.

I'll introduce the survey parameters, data processing pipeline and our
science goals for the first two weeks of observing. I'll describe some of
the challenges of working with wide-field low-frequency data and our
strategies for overcoming those challenges. Finally I'll show some images
from the recently-concluded commissioning phase, and talk about a few of
the papers that are in preparation from these early results.
