RadioAstron Colloquium and Medal Presentation

The Australia Telescope National Facility Colloquium
15:00-16:00 Wed 09 Mar 2016

Marsfield Lecture Theatre

Abstract

RadioAstron is a space Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) mission centred around the Russian Spektr-R satellite which is in a highly elliptical 9-day Earth orbit. A key element of the on-board system is the 20cm receiver, designed and supplied by CSIRO. In this special colloquium, Dave Jauncey will introduce the RadioAstron mission and present some recent results from observations of 3C273; Kel Wellington will give a brief history of Australia's contribution to RadioAstron; and Phil Edwards will describe some multi-wavelength observations (including RadioAstron) of PKS 1954-388. At the conclusion of the colloquium, special RadioAstron medals will be presented to Dave and Kel for their contributions to the mission.
