Larry James Special Colloquium: Exploring the Earth, Solar System and Beyond

The Australia Telescope National Facility Colloquium
11:00-12:00 Wed 13 Nov 2019

Marsfield Lecture Theatre

Abstract

NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) designs, builds and operates spacecraft and instruments to explore our Earth, the solar system and the universe. This presentation will highlight the latest accomplishments and results of our missions orbiting the earth and exploring Mars, Jupiter, the asteroids and interstellar space. We’ll also discuss upcoming missions to measure changes to the earth’s surface and ocean levels, explore Mars with a new rover, visit an all metal asteroid, explore Europa (a moon of Jupiter), and look for planets around other stars. The talk will also highlight partnerships with CSIRO and the critical capabilities of NASA’s Deep Space Network and the work done at the site at the Canberra Deep Space Communications Complex (CDSCC) at Tidbinbilla.
