Abstract

A “synergy triangle” of astronomical observations, laboratory plasma experiments, and plasma theory, is beginning to clarify some longstanding puzzles of jet-lobe radio sources and their remarkable energetics. The enormous scalability of some MHD phenomena -- from cm to Mpc scales -- can make extragalactic space an important plasma/MHD “laboratory”, which can be explored in new ways with the next generation of radio and X-ray telescopes. Some of the puzzles and phenomena may even bridge the interests of astrophysics and fusion science. My talk will give a brief overview of these emerging themes.
