S-PASS: a "revolving" dish to map the southern sky polarized emission - Ettore Carretti Colloquium

Abstract

The S-band Polarized All Sky Survey has recently completed to map the diffuse polarized emission of the entire southern sky at 2.3 GHz with
the Parkes radio telescope. Aimed at studying both the synchrotron
emission as CMB foreground and the Galactic magnetic field, the survey
has been conducted with a special scanning strategy where the big 64-m
telescope was continuously fast "revolving" for long azimuth scans. In
this talk the project will be presented along with first maps, which
show new structures not visible at lower frequencies because of strong
depolarization.
