Subject: First fringes to the AuScope VLBI telescope at Katherine
I’m very pleased to announce first interferometric fringes to the AuScope telescope at Katherine (NT) and also between two AuScope telescopes (Hobart and Katherine). The attached image shows the lag spectrum in one of the observed bands on the Hobart to Katherine baseline during an observation of the quasar PKS 1921-293. The data were collected using DBBC samplers and Mark5 recorders and processed using the DiFX software correlator.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to achieving this milestone: our partners at Geoscience Australia, Curtin University and Charles Darwin University, and colleagues at CSIRO and in the international geodetic VLBI community. In particular however, I’d like to thank the dedicated staff at UTAS who have worked very hard during the construction and commissioning of the three AuScope VLBI observatories.
