[askap-users] ASKAP June Newsletter and Operations Forum Reminder

From: Hotan, Aidan (S&A, Kensington WA) <"Hotan,>
Date: Mon, 20 Jun 2022 04:23:53 +0000

Greetings all,

On the 21st of June we will be hosting the next ASKAP Operations Forum, at 16:00-17:00 AWST, 18:00-19:00 AEST, 08:00-09:00 UTC. Teleconference details are provided below, while the agenda and presentation materials can be found online here: https://confluence.csiro.au/display/askapsst/ASKAP+Operations+Forum+0079

I have attached the June newsletter, describing recent activity and plans for ongoing consolidation work and Setonix commissioning.

The ATNF is also planning to invite the Survey Science Teams to participate in our regular colloquium series. We will be in touch with the PIs to discuss formal arrangements but would encourage everyone to think of possible topics in the meantime!

This week I would like to highlight that the ASKAP team has been awarded the Astronomical Society of Australia's 2022 Peter McGregor prize for innovation in astronomical instrumentation<https://asa.astronomy.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/SiP-Press-Release-Astronomical-Society-of-Australia-Prizes-2022-b.pdf>. The award recognises ASKAP's wide field of view and rapid survey speed, made possible with the combined power of Phased Array Feeds, high-speed digital signal processing, supercomputer-based calibration and imaging, autonomous scheduling and a sophisticated control system that ties everything together. ASKAP's survey capability is the result of extensive effort from well over 100 people, plus a huge amount of community support.

Getting RACS and the Pilot Survey data out into the public domain has demonstrated what ASKAP can do, and we look forward to the many exciting science outcomes sure to result from the full survey campaign.

Best regards,
Aidan.
