Ticket outlets include newsagencies, convenience stores and the UniMart in the Jane Foss Russell Building at the University of Sydney (the green glass clad building where the pedestrian bridge crosses City Road).

Multi-ride train, bus and ferry travel requires an Opal card. More information on the availability of Opal cards will be provided closer to the time.

Train

Redfern is the closest railway station at just over one kilometre away. Follow the well-beaten path along Lawson, Abercrombie and Shepherd streets to the boardwalk.

There are several ticketed parking options close to the conference venue. A full day's parking will cost around $24.

On-street parking will be difficult to find and subject to strictly policed time limits.

Travel & accommodation

Visa requirements

All travellers to Australia must have a valid visa before boarding their plane. Please note that Australia has a strict quarantine policy: the importation of meat and plant products is heavily restricted.

ASKAP 2016: The future of radio astronomy surveys will be registered with the International Event Coordinator Network (IECN) of the Australian Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) in Australia. Please mention this when you apply for your visa.

For the best possible chance of obtaining a visa to travel to Australia, you should:

  • Apply for an ETA or eVisitor visa at least two weeks before your intended date of travel.
  • Apply for your Visitor subclass 600 visa at least six weeks before your intended date of travel. You can obtain a letter of invitation to attach to your visa application from the LOC. Lodge paper-based visa applications at your nearest Australian visa office.
  • Consider Australia's health and character requirements, which you will have to meet as part of the visa application process.

Travel from Sydney Airport

Sydney Airport (SYD) caters for domestic and international travellers via different terminals. The airport is 13km south of the city centre and 6km from the conference venue.

A taxi from the airport to the city centre could cost around AUD 43.00

There is a train service from both the domestic and international airport terminals. Special fares apply: a one-way adult ticket from the airport to the city costs around AUD 17.00.
